Location of the Forest of Life

The saplings are scheduled to be transplanted to Niihama City in Ehime Prefecture, including the area where trees were felled to provide timber for constructing the Sumitomo Pavilion.
The monument named as “Inochi no Mori” reused and refabricated from exterior wooden material of the Sumitomo Pavilion stands at the future reforesting site.
The exterior wooden material of the Sumitomo Pavilion incorporate timber from Japanese cedar trees that were planted at the previous Expo Osaka in the Year of 1970.

The area around the planned transplanting site is rich in sites linked to Sumitomo’s history and the surrounding forests. On the “Machu Picchu of the East” sightseeing bus tour, visitors can explore Tonaru—an industrial heritage site of the Besshi Copper Mines—and catch a view of the future forest from the bus.
