Latest Update!

2025

The saplings planted by the children during the Sumitomo Pavilion tree-planting experience were transported to Sumitomo Forestry’s Motoyama Tree Nursery Center in Motoyama-cho, Nagaoka-gun, Kochi Prefecture. They are now being carefully nurtured and gaining strength. While at the nursery, they are being prepared to take firm root and thrive in the forest before being transplanted to the Niihama City site in Ehime Prefecture around October 2026.

The saplings are thriving at Sumitomo Forestry’s Motoyama Tree Nursery Center!

We asked the manager of the Motoyama Tree Nursery Center how the saplings are being nurtured.

Q.What does the day-to-day care consist of?
A.The saplings are grown outdoors. We water them before the soil dries out, but the amount and frequency of water depend on factors such as wind, temperature, and other weather conditions, so we monitor them carefully.
Fertilizers, fungicides, and insecticides are also applied as needed.
Q.What do you focus on to ensure that the saplings grow well?
A.We monitor them daily and provide appropriate care, such as shading, ventilation, and fertilizer, to ensure balanced growth of both the above-ground tree parts and the roots.

We look forward to watching the saplings grow day by day and seeing what kind of forest they will become.
