On April 17th, 2011, the writing contest “A Brief Message from the Heart”, the 8th such event, was held in the Maruoka gym in Sakai City, Fukui Prefecture.
A total of 40,424 entries were received, of which 146 submissions came from contestants in other countries worldwide, for this year’s contest with the theme “Tears”. Of these entries, 184 received prizes. The award breakdown is as follows: Five contestants were selected for the Grand Prize, 10 won the Award for Excellence, 20 earned the Sumitomo Award, 10 submissions were recognized as a special award, five were given the 40th Anniversary of Maruoka Junior Chamber Award, and 134 entries were chosen for an Honorable Mention.
At the reception, each of submissions were read and introduced by students from Maruoka Junior high school. Also, singer-songwriter Hitoshi Komuro and his daughter took the Grand Prize submissions and converted them into songs in which they sang at the ceremony.
