Having acquired a reputation for product development after launching many innovative new products like car trusts, pension trusts, and land trusts, it was natural for Sumitomo Trust & Banking to engage in management with an acute awareness of corporate social responsibility (CSR). In addition to quarter of a century of assisting public services including academic research and welfare activities through public trusts, in 2003 the company launched Japans first socially responsible investment (SRI)-type corporate pension funds in an alliance with Japan Research Institute, a member of the Sumitomo Group.
The waves of financial restructuring are pushing aside boundaries between business categories and corporate groups. Against this background, Sumitomo Trust & Banking is well positioned to continue its development as a provider of true wealth as an organization that serves society through asset management.
