Bright red and yellow flowers adorn the streets of Miyazaki throughout the year, giving it a truly tropical feel. The attractive views that make Miyazaki a quintessential resort are the result of human effort, like the roadside plantings of subtropical plants such as washingtonia and bougainvillea, the riverside park where deep green phoenix grows, and children’s playgrounds and contemporary-style hotels along the coast that integrate with their natural surroundings.

At the same time one can enjoy the beauty of natural form, like the island of Aoshima roughly carved by the Pacific waves, and Horikiri Pass on the Nichinan Coast, which offers extensive views of the Hyuga Sea. There are many important shrines around the city, passing on Japan’s creation myth. Miyazaki is a city where both ancient and modern history comes to life and entertains us with ever-changing expression.
Miyazaki is traditionally known as the “land facing the sun.” Visitors to Miyazaki can delight unreservedly in what the city has to offer, just as they share equally in the munificence of the southern sun.
