As is fitting for a prefectural capital, Mito boasts a full range of libraries, schools, hospitals and other public facilities, and it also has a large number of city parks. Many of these were built around lakes and rivers; they feature a myriad of flowers all year round, and are also home to many different kinds of birds according to the season. Many people in Mito like to relax by walking or jogging in this natural environment.
Mito boasts a mild climate, and a thriving agricultural industry is a mere stones throw from the city center. Next door is also one of Ibaraki Prefectures major fishing ports, meaning that Mito even has plentiful sea food available. Blessed as they are with such a generous natural environment, the people of Mito enjoy a very rich life.
Located right in the middle of a large plain, Mito has an unobstructed view of the surrounding area. Generations of wise rulers gave Mito 250 years worth of fantastic history, and even today the areas large expanses of open land and seemingly endless sky remind us not only of the generosity of Mother Nature, but also of the foresight and magnanimity of those who chose to settle here.
