Into the 21st Century

Into the 21st Century

As Himeji enters the new millennium, it is working to make itself more accessible by land, air, and sea. The new east-west SANYO EXPRESSWAY, which passes through the heights in the northern part of the city, was fully opened three years ago, and another expressway is under construction that will go north to Tottori Prefecture on the Sea of Japan. In the Port of Himeji, new multipurpose port facilities, including cranes and container yards, are scheduled to go into operation around 2005. Moreover, a new airport is slated for construction seven kilometers north of Himeji Station. As Himeji enters the 21st century, it is getting set to become an even more lively center for the movement of people, products, and information.
Himeji offers both history and romance, and bustles with the movement of both people and goods. The city is now working to attract new businesses and events that will further enhance its attractiveness, and let the city's abundant resources shine through.
