Fukuoka Tower soars above Hakata Port, its reflective-glass walls glittering like mirrors in the sun. The 234-meter tower affords a sweeping view of Fukuoka City, from the verdant expanse sweeping around the harbor to the Genkai Sea beyond. Situated on a gentle plain threaded by a number of rivers flowing from the mountains further inland, Fukuoka City is a vibrant metropolis with a cluster of modern office buildings and commercial buildings in its center surrounded by residential houses and condominiums. Traffic flows ceaselessly on the streets that grid the city, while majestic passenger liners float in the port and jet planes going to and from the city airport fly overhead.
Fukuoka City is blessed with a rich natural environment and advanced urban amenities. Located at the northern tip of Kyushu, the southernmost of Japans four main islands, the city is home to some 1.3 million people as well as numerous financial institutions, a wide range of service-sector businesses, and the branch offices of several major corporations. It is Kyushus economic hub and one of the leading commercial cities in Japan. |
